Aspect Ratio is an Albany-based duo, featuring Jim Gross on guitars, harmonica, and vocals, and Izzy Singer on drums, guitars, and vocals.

Jim started playing guitar in high school and played regularly through college and beyond, singing in coffeehouse open mics, and jamming with friends at parties. Jim's previous experience in bands goes back to the mid eighty's when he wrote his first original songs, sang lead vocals, played rhythm guitar and blues harp in "Kilgore Trout".

Jim met Izzy back in '86 at an ad agency where they both worked as graphic designers. They formed a band "The Icons" and recorded a demo in the ad agencys recording studio.

In 2003, Jim recruited Izzy to play drums in the newely formed alt-country band "Jackinany". They played locally at Valentines, and Arties. Following the disintegration of Jackinany, Jim and Izzy formed "Aspect Ratio" as a showcase vehicle for their original material and colaborative efforts.

Jim has studied music theory and improvisation, and video art and installation at Rensselaer Polytechnic Instiute in the Electronic Media Arts and Communication program. Jim's musical influence is all over the board and is still expanding. A die hard Rock and Roll fan who digs Jazz, Country, Blues, Folk, Latin, Reggae and Experimental, and it shows in his music.

Izzy has been making music for over 20 years, and various other noises for twice as long. An Albany native, Iz, at age 5, developed a fascination for tape machines and recording which continues unabated. During the '80's, Iz began playing drums for a number of bands. He soon picked up guitar as well, and began writing and recording under the moniker "as iz."

In 1986, he met fellow musician Jim Gross and recorded as "The Icons", along with guitarist Rick Carr.

During the '90's, he formed such bands as "Hydraulic Dilemma", "Recipe Children", and "The Insinuators", playing originals & covers.

He completed a stint as drummer for "Jackinany." Izzy is currently putting the finishing touches on a new "as iz" album. His influences run from echo-laden '50's rock n' roll, through the Beach Boys, British Invasion, and, as he points out, ". . . just about everything that has melody."
